Abiquiu

May 28, 1949 - November 27, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, John C. Demarest, of Abiquiu, New Mexico. Born on May 28, 1949, in Columbus, Ohio, he joined our mother, Rae, in heaven on November 27, 2024, at the age of 75.

John proudly served his country as an Aircraft Mechanic in the US Navy during the Vietnam conflict. He later built a distinguished career as a Firefighter in Denver, Colorado. A true outdoorsman, John found joy in fishing, hunting, camping, and riding through the mountains.

John wished to be remembered as a devoted husband who cared for his wife until her passing, as well as a loving father, brother, son, friend, and most importantly, grandfather (“Papa”). His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he took immense pride in each of them.

John is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, Michele Wolf (Dennis Duranceaux) of Albuquerque, NM, and Dawna Stine (Brian Stine) of Abiquiu, NM. He also leaves behind four cherished grandchildren: Evan Archer (fiancée Raney Beckham-Talbert) of Fort Worth, TX, Ashlynn Archer of Denver, CO, Peyton Elder of Seattle, WA, and Austin Sawyer of Centennial, CO. Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Linda Laitner of Rio Rancho, NM. John's love, wisdom, and humor have left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

His memory will be cherished by all who loved him. A service will be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Santa Fe at a later date.

The family of John Demarest has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the beautiful Espanola Valley. www.devargasfuneral.com 505-747-7477
