John Alex Salazar Sr., age 73, a resident of La Mesilla, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, with his family at his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe I. Sr. and Ramoncita Salazar; parents-in-law, Joseph and Elisaida Romero; twin sister Carolina Salazar; granddaughter, Aspen Salazar; brothers Napoleon Salazar (Helen), Leroy Salazar and Dennis Salazar; sister Mary Serrano (Benny); brothers-in-law Lee Padilla, Roy Romero, Kevin Joseph and Leroy Romero; and sisters-in-law Marylou Salazar and “Carnation” Martinez (Arthur).
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mable Salazar; sons John A. Salazar Jr. and wife Sheri and Andrew Salazar and wife Janelle; daughter Elisa (EJ) Valdez and husband Wayne; grandchildren Tre, Michael, Noah, Destiny, Rio, Rome, and Allison; brothers Eloy Salazar, Joe I. Jr. (Isabel), Raymond (Therese), and Daniel (Claudine); sisters Julia Jaramillo (Archie), Betty Salazar, Teresa Romero, Lucy Abercrombie (Loren), Annette Joseph, and Judy Martinez (Leroy); brother-in-law Floyd Romero (Finnie), and numerous nephews and nieces.
A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at 5:00 pm, followed by a rosary at 6:00 pm in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home, Espanola, NM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, January 4, 2024, at 11:00 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Espanola, NM.
Burial will take place on Friday, January 5, 2024, at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM at 11:00 am.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Valdez, Andrew Salazar, John Salazar, Rio Salazar, Dannyray Salazar, and Ronnie Salazar.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Rome Salazar, Noah Salazar, Destiny Salazar, and Allison Salazar.
