Joey Cruz

JOEY LAWRENCE CRUZ , 62, a resident of Las Trampas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 11, 2021. He was born on September 9, 1958 in Utah to Jose de Gracia and Elsa Cruz. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Angel Cruz; sister, Ilene Cruz Silva; nephew, Emillio Santiago Salazar; father-in-law, Joe Fresquez and many other loved ones. Joey was a skilled carpenter by trade, talented woodworker, and craftsman. He built many homes and enjoyed working in his shop. He created many beautiful things that his family will cherish forever. Joey will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Mr. Cruz is survived by his wife of 43 years, Renae; son, Joey Cruz, Jr.; daughter, Reanna Cruz (Steven Ogas); soon to be born granddaughter; sister, Diana Cruz; brother, Gary Cruz (Lonnie); mother-in-law, Ramona Fresquez and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. The Cruz family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to all the medical and health care providers; Father Kimani, Josefita and the church Choir of the San Antonio de Padua Parish for the services; the DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory for their professsionalism and treating Joey with dignity; for his family and friends who have reached out and shown tremendous love with prayers, phone calls, visits, food and monetary gifts. A special thanks to Ray Pacheco for all his friendship throughout the years and help when needed. Mass will be celebrated at the San Antonio de Padua Parish in Penasco, NM on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with a eulogy to be recited at 10:45 a.m. prior to the mass.  The burial will follow at the Las Trampas Cemetery in Las Trampas, NM. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks and social distancing will be required. The family of Joey Lawrence Cruz has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
