Joe T. -age 77 - La Puebla Maestas

JOE T. MAESTAS, 77, a resident of La Puebla, born on December 25, 1936, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, November 12, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andres and Sinforosa Maestas; sisters, Porfidia Fresquez and Adela Quintana; brothers, Oliby and Candido Maestas and other loving in-laws. Mr. Maestas is survived by his wife of 53 years, Martha Maestas; children, Anthony Maestas and wife Susan, Roseanne Roybal and husband Phillip, David Maestas, Diana Mathews and husband Clifton and Andrea Martinez and husband David; sister, Louisa Esquibel; brother, Carasiolo Maestas and wife Alice; grandchildren, Diego and Katrina Maestas, Felicia and Camille Roybal, Scott, Mariah and DeAnna Maestas, Marina and Makena Mathews and Jake Martinez; great-grandchildren, Mason Maestas, Aubree Anaya and Hayden Maestas and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Joe’s contributions to his community included driving the school bus for community children for over 20 years, as a local Ditch Association Commissioner, he was instrumental in the improvements of the community acequias, he also devoted his time and effort into implementing and installation of the La Puebla community well association. Joe donated his own land for the wells and water tank, he was awarded the lifetime achievement in 2006 as a living treasure for his contributions to the local acequias in the valley. Joe also served as a fire captain for the La Puebla volunteer Fire Dept. of which he helped establish and build. He was best known as the Santa Cruz Irrigation District Manager where he served the community for over 25 years. Public visitation will begin on Monday, November 17, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz. Cremation to follow services, burial will be held at a later date at La Puebla Cemetery, with the following serving as pallbearers Roy and Marvin Maestas, Charlie Esquibel, Diego Maestas, David Martinez, and BJ Lucero, honorary pallbearers Scott Maestas, Jake Fresquez, Arlene Maestas, Jessica Romero, Debbie Maestas, Ronald Montoya, Richardo Nabholz Jr., Joseph Gorman, Javier Romero, Andy Romero, and Mario Ortiz.
