Joe S. Martinez, Jr., (Mother Nature), 53, a resident of Chimayo passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2010 from a brief illness. Joe Jr. was once employed at Los Alamos National Lab and Espanola Public Schools, thereafter. He also spent many years employed by his father, Joe Sr. as a stone mason. Joe had many friends and he was loved by everyone. He had a big heart and was always willing to help anyone. Joe also had a passion for basketball in his high school years. He was an all-star basketball player and played basketball in his Dad’s team for many years. Joe enjoyed watching wrestling and spending time with family. He enjoyed the outdoors and listening to Rancheras. He will be missed very dearly. Joe was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Demetrio and Eufracia Martinez; maternal grandmother, Senaida Trujillo. He is survived by his parents, Joe S. Martinez Sr. and Angie T. Martinez of Chimayo; daughter, Andrea Martinez of Alcalde; grandsons: Deon Garduno of Alcalde, Deshaun Garduno of Alcalde; granddaughter, Aubrianna Garduno of Alcalde; sisters: Darla Vigil and husband Kevin of Cundiyo, Sandra Valdez and companion David Gomez of Chimayo; brother, Nel Martinez of Santa Fe; sister Sadie Chavez of Española; niece, Candyce Valencia of Rio Chama; nephew, Josh Vigil of Denver, Colorado; nephew, Nicholas Martinez of Scottsdale, AZ; niece, Shayna Padilla of Colorado Springs, CO; niece, Desiree Vigil of Dallas, TX; nephew, Timmy Vigil of Cundiyo; special nephew, Lucas Gomez of Chimayo; niece, Maryssa Chavez of Española; nephew, Isaiah Chavez of Española; great-nieces: Ceryne and Nyree; great-nephew, Cedryc; and many other relatives and friends. A Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Chimayo. Burial will follow at El Potrero Cemetery in Chimayo with the following serving all pallbearers: Best-friend Ernest Sandoval, Brother-in-law David Gomez, Brother-in-law Kevin Vigil, nephew Timmy Vigil, nephew Lucas Gomez, nephew Isaiah Chavez; honorary pallbearers, all nephews and nieces.
