Joel Phillip Herrera

Joel Phillip Herrera, 49, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2023. 

Joel grew up in Dixon, NM.  He currently lived in Scottsdale, AZ, at the time of his passing.  A loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and dear friend to many, he will be greatly missed.

Joel was born in Espanola, NM, on January 7, 1974, to Gilbert and Gail Herrera.  He was an avid outdoorsman and athlete who excelled at basketball and baseball; his latest love was golf.  He graduated from Penasco High School in 1992 and went to serve 8 years in the US Navy as a respiratory therapist.  He continued his career in the medical field until his passing. 

Joel is preceded in death by his father Gilbert Herrera. 

He is survived by his mother Gail Herrera; his wife Mandy; children Lucas (Katie), Jerod, and Riley, stepchildren Brooke, Paige, Jack (Faith), and Abby; grandchildren Derek, Otto, Mavis, and Leo; brothers and sisters Elizabeth Trujillo (Richard), Alex (Deborah), Paul (Leslie), Vincent (Dina), Victoria Herrera, Ramona Herrera-Reeves, and Felicia Lucero.  Joel had many, many nephews and nieces that he loved and cherished so much.  His larger-than-life personality and smile will be missed by all.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, August 25, 2023, at 10:00 am at DeVargas Funeral Home.
