It is with deep sorrow and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Jose Olivares Romero, better known as Tejano, was a resident of El Guache, NM, former resident of his beloved Cordova. Joe passed away on November 4, 2024, with his family by his side.
Tejano was preceded in death by his sons Kenneth and Joey; mother Adonelia; father Vicente Martinez from San Benito Texas; grandfather Victor Romero who reared him; sister/aunt Precilla Romero; brother/uncles Arsenio and Filex Romero all whom he loved dearly; siblings, three sisters, and four brothers.
Tejano loved the outdoors, hunting with his granddaughters the sharp shooting sisters, Shantell and Kylee and his ex-son-in law Nathan Boylan. Nathan held a special place in Joes heart. He loved camping and vacations with family and friends. Joe loved the music of Freddy Fender, Johnny Cash, Fats Domino, and Elvis Presley. Joe visited Grace land in Tennessee, Grand Ole Opry, and Loretta Lynn’s Mansion. Tejano worked for Zia/Laki in Los Alamos. Later in life he attended auto mechanic school and opened his own business until his health declined.
Jose is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Betty; his beloved daughter Andrenette; one grandson Tristan Maestas; five granddaughters- Carmelita Borrego, Eze great grandson, Ashley McCall, and Emmanuel great grandson. Shantell, Kylee, Alanni Boylan, and Adam Sanchez. Sisters Mildred and Louie Aguilar, Pauline and Edwin Garcia, and Ruth and Sammy Lucero. His in-laws, the Padilla family loved and accepted Tejano as their fleshly brother. Leandro and Eva, Dennis, Ted and Antoinette, Mary and Armando Garcia, Lucy and Johnny Garica, Toni Boggs, and Darlene and Pablo Martinez; God children Troy Padilla and Tanya Rodarte. Friends Merlin Trujillo and Sevedeo Sandoval. Tejano will be missed by his family, friends, and extended family.
A Public Viewing will take place on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 5:00 pm, with Celebration of Life to follow at 6:00 pm at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM. Private Burial at a later date.
The family would like to “Thank” Ambercare Hospice nurses Anna and Stephanie, along with nurses from Giving Home Health Care for their love, compassion, and care that they gave Joe. Jessica, Jonathan, Maya, Joemar, Noah, Andrea, Leanna, and Tom.
