Joe L. Sanchez, a lifelong resident of Lyden, NM passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, July 13, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents Juan Antonio and Josefita Sanchez, brother Paul, and sisters Viola and Consuelo, dear cousins Roger and Rueben Romero.
He was a proud veteran who served his country during the Korean War. He worked for the local telephone company as a technical service advisor supporting many areas of northern New Mexico, and during his tenure mentoring many aspiring technicians. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, trips to the mountains, music, and most of all the invaluable time with his children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter. He provided for his family in many ways as a husband, a dad, a grandfather, and a great-grandfather. His greatest pride was sharing the many accomplishments of his family to others.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Florence, son Kenny, daughters Jackie, Monica, and Jessica (Ken), grandkids Evan (Joslyn), Meghan (Juan), Zac, Matias, Mario, great granddaughter Madalynn, his hermanita Isabel Salazar (Reyes), and brother Efren (Kay).
A rosary will be recited on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh, with a Mass of Christian burial to follow at 4:00 p.m. Burial will take place on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers are his grandkids Evan, Zac, Matias, Mario, Meghan and husband Juan. Honorary pallbearers are special son-in-law Ken Fernandez, best friends Jimmy Gomez and Tony Guillen, brother-in-law Reyes Salazar, Godson Glenn Gomez, and neighbor Leroy Trujillo.
