JOE S. QUINTANA, 78, a resident of Española, went to be with our Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 31, 2020 after battling cancer. He was born in Santa Cruz on September 2, 1941 to Desiderio and Clorinda Quintana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Desiderio Rafael Quintana and Clorinda Manzanares Quintana; sister, Beatrice Martinez; brothers, Eloy, Roberto and Urban Quintana; daughters, Suzette and Therese Quintana. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Viola Quintana; daughters, Elaine Hickman (Carlton), Caroline Manzanares (Gabino) and Angela Quintana; granddaughter raised as a daughter, Anna Maria Quintana (Rafael); nine additional grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, Esperanza (Elijah), Jose (Camille), Elias and Jayla Fernandez, Miranda and Justin Hickman, Jared May, Layla Montoya, Elizabeth, Hanna Grace, Lucas and Jason Manzanares, Jadyn Cook and Ayanna Flakes; sister, Cecilia Trujillo (Ismael); brothers, Silviano (Elsie) and Estevan Quintana; mother-in-law, Pilar Archuleta and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. Joe loved music and began singing in his late teens. He sang with various local bands at school dances, proms, restaurants and Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties. He eventually joined a band called “The Brotherhood Five” and in addition to singing, he would also play the keyboard and conga drums. Joe was a man of various talents and occupations. He was employed by the New Mexico State Tax and Revenue in Santa Fe, worked at Zia and LANL as a Mechanical Tech and Radiation Tech for a total of 30 years. He also worked as a security guard for Santa Fe School of Fine Arts, Española Jr. High and Española Valley High School. He would also volunteer his time to help with security at Holy Cross Parish. Additionally, he became a caregiver for disabled adults and seniors at El Mirador, the City of Santa Fe and also for students with disabilities at Española Valley High School. Joe was a man that loved his family unconditionally, Joe’s family are grateful to have had him in their lives and his memory will always live in their hearts forever. Public visitation will begin on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church. Burial to follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Santa Cruz with the following serving as pallbearers, Jared May, Lucas and Jason Manzanares, Justin Hickman, Gabino Manzanares and Jose Fernandez. Honorary pallbearers named are, Alex Salazar, Gilbert Rivera, Lawrence Romero, Dennis Martinez, Silviano Quintana, Carlton Hickman and Helen Lehman. The family of Joe S.
