Joe E. (Harpy) Maestas, 89, a resident of Santa Fe and formerly of Española, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2015. Joe (Harpy) was preceded in death by his parents, Tomas and Teresita Maestas; sisters, Ernestine Martinez and Rose Sandoval; ex-daughter-in-law, Pamela Maestas. Joe (Harpy) Maestas grew up in Española and was a Post Office employee for 30 years and after retirement had a jewelry and pottery business for many years. Joe was a passionate man who loved people and especially paid attention to family. Joe will be greatly missed and admired for his sense of humor and passion for life. Mr. Maestas is survived by his wife, Teresa M. Maestas of Santa Fe; sons, Rudy O. Maestas and wife Deluvina, Dr. Charles J. Maestas and wife Anna, David Maestas and wife Jeanette, Richard and friend Christina Romero; grandchildren, Monica, Christiana, Stephanie, Kimberly, Joshua, Dominic, Erika, Nicholas, Joey, and Andrea, great-grandchildren, Isabella, Mateo, Nathaniel, and Derrick; sister, Flora Perea of Belen and her husband Manuel; daughter-in-law, Frances R. Maestas and many nieces and nephews. Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Church in Santa Fe, with a Burial to follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are his sons, Rudy, Charles, David and Richard and grandsons, Joey and Dominic Maestas. The family of Joe E. (Harpy) Maestas has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
