Joe L. Valdez, 89, a resident of San Pedro, formerly of Denver, Colorado was called home on October 10, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Antonio Valdez and mother, Beatrice Martinez Valdez; brothers, Elued and Anselmo Val Valdez; sisters, Evangeline Jaramillo and Viola Lopez.
Joe was born in Alamosa, Colorado, the family later migrated to Denver where he was raised. A faithful servant of the Lord, Joe always put Christ first in his life. A proud Veteran, he served his country in the United States Army and Navy. Joe spent the majority of his life in Denver, Colorado where he had a long and successful career working with Colorado Serum Company, retiring after almost 50 years of service.
Joe was an avid cyclist who enjoyed biking many trails in Colorado. He enjoyed swimming, walking and hiking. He also loved water and snow skiing in Colorado and New Mexico. Joe snow skied until the age of 79! He loved to travel and enjoyed visiting family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Gina and husband David Salazar; granddaughter and caregiver who he considered as a daughter, Theresa Salazar; grandchildren, Nathan Trujillo, Antonia Salazar, Shania Trujillo and D’Andre Salazar; mother of their daughter, Cora Osmus; like sons, Terrell Osmus and wife Stacie and their children, AnnMarie and Cooper; Bryan Osmus and wife, Natalie and their children, Megan and Josie; brothers and sisters, Elued Valdez and wife, Shirley, Louella Lowrie, Vickie Faye Fresquez, Michael Valdez and wife Linda; brother-in-law, Gilbert “Pops” Lopez; Godchildren, JoAnn Knaus, and Pamela Vigil; as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The family would like to thank family, friends and neighbors, Professional Home Health Care, Presbyterian Heath Care Services and Ambercare. Public visitation will begin on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a funeral service to follow at 1:30 p.m. Serving the family as pallbearer is going to be Michael Valdez.
