JoAnn M. Herrera, 53, a resident of Espanola, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2014. JoAnn was preceded in death by her son, Carlos C. Herrera; father, Johnny C. Herrera Sr.; maternal grandparents, Antonio and Eduvigen Quintana, paternal grandparents, Rafael and Ramoncita Herrera; special nephew, Arsenio “AJ” Herrera. JoAnn was a loving daughter, mother, sister, aunt, great-aunt and godmother. She enjoyed talking to family and friends. She had a love for children and was a giving person, she was always willing to help anyone in need. JoAnn was retired from the Los Alamos National Laboratory as the first Hispanic female metalographer. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her mother, Amada Q. Herrera; brothers and sisters, Leroy Herrera and wife Erlinda, Helen Atencio and husband Eddie, Johnny Herrera and wife Elvira, Lily Garcia and husband Andy, Eva Medina and husband Leroy, Judy Maestas, Michael Herrera and companion Yvonne Martinez, Tony Herrera and companion Melissa Martinez, and Cathy Herrera, niece that was like a daughter, Sandra Maestas and her son Kaiden Chavez who called her Nani, and many other nieces, nephews, family and friends. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Leroy Herrera, Johnny C. Herrera Jr., Michael Herrera, Tony Herrera, Antonio Herrera, and Johnny C. Herrera III, honorary pallbearers will be her God-children, Nicole Herrera, Sandra Maestas, Dionna Morales, Rayna Morales, Jaslyn Maestas, Justin Herrera, Jessica Espiricueta, Ian Pieniazek, and Jennifer Necker.
