JoAnn G. Martinez, 60, born April 30, 1953 a resident of Dixon, went home after battling 7 years of cancer with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, Modesto Martinez Jr.; father Robert Gurule; sister, Pauline Gurule, brother, David Gurule; nephew Freddie Montoya Jr.; grandparents, Mr and Mrs. Rumaldo Gonzales, and Mr. and Mrs. Adelaido Gurule, and many other aunts uncles and cousins. JoAnn was a very loving and caring person, always thinking of others first before herself. She loved her family very much and would do anything for them, she also loved to listen to her music which her radio was always on KDCE or 89.1 and also enjoyed going fishing, and cooking but most of all her faith which kept her smiling and happy. JoAnn is survived by her daughter, Janice Fernandez (Herman), sons, James Fernandez (Barbara), Matthew Martinez (Michelle); mother Ruth Gurule; brother Norman Gurule, sisters, Irene Gurule and Christine Chavez (Johnny), nieces, Lori Montoya, Renee, Janet, Lisa, and Jennifer Chavez, Michelle, Jessica Montoya, nephews Juanito and Adrian Chavez and Christopher Montoya, and many special aunts, uncles and cousins and friends. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Dixon. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. also at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Dixon. Burial to follow at the Father Cooper Cemetery in Embudo. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Johnny Chavez, Tony Martinez, Richard, Ernie and Kevin Gonzales and Galen Gurule, honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren, Kristen Martinez and David, Elijah, and Daija Fernandez, Angelina Muniz, Dominic, Diego, and Micheal Martinez and Ravin Sandoval, and a special cousins Bobby Gonzales and Rachel Padilla. The family of JoAnn Martinez has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
