Joan Miera (known as JoAnn), 66, a resident of Española, passed away in Santa Fe surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, January 31, 2016. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lugarda Miera, father, Juan Miera; baptismal God-mother, Irene Lopez; brothers, Steve and Prescilliano Miera; sisters, Berlinda Martinez, Annabelle Miera; and niece Joyce Fresquez.
Joann is survived by her sister, Lourdes Apodaca and husband Tom their children, Janet Trujillo and husband Steve, Juanita Apodaca and Eric, and Thomas Apodaca; sister, Pablita Esquibel and husband Horace their children, Polly Arzola, Priscilla Garcia and husband Pete, Peggy Esquibel and Kevin; nieces, April Trujillo and husband Kelly and Amanda Pacheco, brother-in-law, Joe G. Martinez and his children, David Martinez, Debbie Dixon and husband Martin, Myra Vigil, Michael and Evelyn; sister, Cordelia Mares and her family, sister-in-law, Theresa Miera and her family; special great-nephews, Leroy and Nicholas Fresquez, also a great-great niece, Amarii Martinez (her Cinderella); Baptismal God-father, Frutoso Lopez and her special God-brother (cousin) her Chango James Lopez and wife Geraldine; 15 great nieces and nephews, 6 great-great nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends that care and love her dearly. Public visitation will begin on Friday, February 5, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at the San Jose Catholic Church in Hernandez with a rosary to be recited at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery following the Mass. Pallbearers carrying JoAnn to her final rest will be, David and Michael Martinez, Leroy Jr and Nicholas Fresquez, Ryan Arzola, James Lopez, Tomas Apodaca, and Zachary Trujillo.
The family would like to thank Ideal Home Care Agency and special caregivers, Angie Salazar, Betty and Erlinda Herrera for the great care they provided for JoAnn with lots of TLC. Special thanks also to Dr. Tudor Ocneanu, and Dr. Rafael Garabis and all the staff at St Vincent Hospital for the care they gave Joann during her short stay. The family has entrusted the care of their beloved JoAnn Miera to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
