Jessica Ray Martinez

It is with great sadness that the family of Jessica Ray Martinez, 29, a resident of Chimayo, passed away unexpectedly on Friday August 18, 2023.

She was preceded in death by her father Carlos M. Garcia, maternal grandparents Hector and Dolores Martinez, paternal grandfather Pat Garcia, uncles Ronnie (Moosie) Martinez, Ricky Martinez, Carmen Martinez and Chris Garcia.  Cousins Michael Esquibel, Rickie Burrell, Aaleah Carbajal, Annaleah Martinez, Cassie Garcia and Walter Serrano.

She is survived by her mother Gina Ray Martinez, brothers Eric (Roseann) Garcia, Carl Garcia and Thomas Staley her boyfriend.  She is also survived by her uncle Kenny Martinez and aunties Juanita (Kevin)Porteous, Anita (Max) Esquibel. Paternal grandmother Virginia Garcia, auntie Patricia (Gabe) Covarrubias and many, many cousins and friends that loved her and will miss her dearly.

Jessica Ray loved animals and had a passion for stray dogs and cats that seemed to know to show up at our house because they knew they would be fed and well taken care of.

She was tough and fearless with a beautiful smile and dimples.  She loved her family, especially her brothers Eric and Carl.  She always said she would protect them with her life if need be. She was always ready to lend a hand to everyone and this made her a caring and reliable person.

As we come to terms with this unimaginable loss, we hold onto the love and cherished moments that will keep her spirit alive in our hearts.

Thank you to everyone for the calls, prayers and help during this difficult time.  We are forever grateful to each and every one of you and a special thank you from the bottom of our hearts to Thomas Staley for all he did for Jessica until emergency services showed up.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Devargas Funeral Home to help the family with expenses.

A public visitation will be on Friday, September 8, 2023 at 12:00 pm at The Sangre De Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM. Funeral Mass will be at 2:00 pm at Holy Family Church in Chimayo, NM following the visitation.  Burial will follow at the El Potrero Cemetery in Chimayo, NM.
