Jered Joseph Martinez, 22, a resident of El Rito, went to be with the Lord on July 23, 2018 surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born on January 31, 1996 to Clarence and Cassandra Martinez of El Rito.
Jered will be greeted by his paternal grandparents, Jose Alfonso and Cleo Martinez; uncle, Robert and his maternal great-grandparents, Frank and Virginia Gonzales and Moises and Estella Archuleta.
Jered was a very caring, humble and loving person. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, camping and helping his dad and uncles. Jered always had a smile and could light up a room with his personality and sense of humor. He was a member of the El Rito Volunteer Fire Department and he worked for the Army Corp of Engineers at the Abiquiu Dam. He graduated from Northern New Mexico College with an Associate’s Degree in Environmental Sciences with honors.
Jered is survived by his parents, Clarence and Cassandra Martinez; siblings, AshleyAnn and Jose Alfonso Martinez; grandparents, George and Frances Archuleta; Godparents, David and Monica Martinez of El Rito; aunts and uncles, Corrine Archuleta, Elizabeth Lucero (late Herminio), Mel Martinez (Geneva), Irene Aldaz (Marcelino), Grace Archuleta (Pete), Felix Martinez (Lillie), Janet Martinez (Ronnie), Steve Martinez (Debbie), Jake Martinez (Mae), David Martinez (Monica), Glenn Archuleta, James Archuleta, Gina Terrazas (Tito), Georg-Ann Salazar (Victor) as well as numerous other aunts, uncles and cousins.
Public visitation will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. A second rosary will be recited on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at San Juan de Nepomuceno Catholic Church in El Rito. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. also at San Juan de Nepomuceno Catholic Church with burial to follow at the Martinez Cemetery in El Rito. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Jeffrey Lucero, Nathaniel Naranjo, Jacob Martinez, Jose Alfonso Martinez, Jaime Martinez and Robert Trujillo. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be AshleyAnn Martinez, James and Glenn Archuleta, Victor Salazar, Tito Terrazas, Jake, David, Steve, Mel and Felix Martinez, all of his loving cousins and close friends, Andy Maestas and Nicholas Michael Solarius I.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Andy Maestas, Nathaniel Naranjo and Andres and Desiree Maestas.
