Jason P. Duran, 42 a resident of Chimayo passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 20, 2013. Jason was preceded in death by his father, Jose E. Duran, Jr; nephew, Gary Duran, Jr.; brothers-in-law, Valentino E. Baca, Sr. and Jerry Gurule and niece, Nakita Garcia. Jason was an Española Valley Graduate from the class of 1988. Jason was also a U.S. Navy Veteran during Desert Storm serving aboard the U.S.S. America traveling the middle East, Spain, Italy, Abu- Dabi, Qatar, Turkey, London, and returning home after his 4 years of service. He joined the navy while employed at St. Vincent’s Hospital as a grounds keeper. Jason enjoyed riding his Harley and especially going to Sturgis, SD. He loved working on his Oldie, (50 Chevy) which he was restoring. He had a passion for building and painting model cars, his patience and talents made plenty. Mr. Duran is survived by his mother, Maria E. Duran; sisters, Sandra Martinez and husband Michael, JoAnne Baca, Doris Gurule and Nancy Garcia; brother, Gary Duran and special friend Genevieve Salazar; close niece, Tracy Baca; God-mother, Flora Montoya and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Jason had a big heart who shared his love with everyone he met, especially his family; he was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. A rosary will be held Tuesday June 25, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. Chapel of Peace at DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday June 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at El Buen Pastor in Chimayo with burial to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Serving as pallbearers will be Noel Martinez, Adam DeAguero, Daryl Trujillo, Valentino Baca, Jr., Leonard Sandoval, Sr., Michael Martinez, Sr., Michael Martinez, Jr. and Anthony Garcia.
