Janis Fern Builta 72, of White Rock, passed away September 4th at home after a long struggle with illness. Present were Lee, her husband of 50 years; son Charles Lee Builta, and sister Joyce Collins. She is also survived by daughter Kerry Anne Forbes and son-in-law Thomas F. Forbes; grandchildren Zjael, Skyler and Kyle; as well as brother Gordon Stephens and sister Mary Olvera.\r\n \r\n Janis was born to Charles Oscar Stephens and Frances Fern Van Lueven Stephens on November 5, 1937, in Baker, Oregon. The family lived in several towns in Oregon where her father worked in the logging industry. They moved to Lakeview, Oregon in 1949, where she graduated high school and met her husband Lee.\r\n \r\n In 1964 the Builtas moved to Los Alamos where they both worked for the Los Alamos Laboratory for many years, raised their children and were active in the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and in the community.\r\n \r\n Janis garnered many awards at county and state fairs for her baking, sewing, and flowers. She was a great supporter of the Santa Fe Opera and the Los Alamos Concert Association, attending many performances every year.\r\n \r\n An exceptionally talented and well loved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, she will be missed by many.\r\n \r\n A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 8th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, White Rock Ward, 366 Grand Canyon Dr. The family of Janis Fern Builta has entrusted the care of their beloved Janis to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley. 505-662-2400 toll free 1-877-747-3600\r\n
