Janet Ruth Pyburn Cowan, died unexpectedly from a Brain hemorrhage on Friday, July 29, 2016.
Janet was born May 13, 1959 in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Janet graduated from LAHS in 1977 and married Jerry Cowan that fall. Jerry and Janet wanted to explore America and Janet wanted to study fashion design and sewing. Over the next 3 years, they lived in Santa Cruz CA, spent a year in Utah where Janet attended fashion design school in Provo, spent a summer camping in the Lake Tahoe area, and lived in Austin Texas for a year. When Janet became pregnant with her son, Joshua, they moved back to New Mexico, where she could be close to family and friends.
Janet graduated from UNM LA in 2002 with a degree in Business.  She worked for many years at LANL as a document control specialist.
Janet was a very creative person.  She was an accomplished seamstress, an excellent cook and baker, and a very talented gardener.  Janet was a devoted mother, grandmother and Aunt to the children in her life as well as to her chihuahua, Preston. She provided loving care and attention for her mother Joyce, who passed away in May 2016.
Janet was preceded in death by her sister Marion Pyburn, father Tom Pyburn Sr., and mother Joyce Pyburn. She is survived by her son Joshua Cowan and granddaughter Kori Armijo, brother Tom Pyburn, sister Elaine Deschamp, nephews Daniel Deschamp (daughter Kyrina) and Jesse Deschamp (wife Cynthia, sons Braedon, Lennon, and Hendrix).

A joint celebration of life will be held for Janet and her Mother Joyce Pyburn at Bethlehem Lutheran Church 2390 North road Los Alamos NM Wednesday August 10, 2016 at 11:00 am
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Janet’s name to Self Help Inc. The family of Janet Ruth Pyburn Cowan has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley. 505-747-7477-www.devargasfuneral.com
