James Walter Mundy

JAMES WALTER MUNDY, 70, a resident of Chama, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 22, 2015. He was the son of W.H. (Bill) Mundy, Jr. and Ethel Isaaks Mundy whose roots rand deep in Dona Ana County ranching and farming. In the early 1950’s they moved from the Hatch Valley to the Chama Valley and established Mundy Ranch where Jim’s curiosity about nature and animal world became his life’s calling.\r\n \r\nJim attended the New Mexico Military Institute and graduated high school in Phoenix Arizona. Beginning college at New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, he knew he wanted to become a large animal veterinarian. He participated in an intense program to complete his undergraduate degree in three years and then entered the School of Veterinary Medicine and received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado State University in Fort Collins in 1969.\r\n \r\nHe moved to Santa Fe and built the Ark Veterinary Clinic and established a very successful practice. He lived and worked in Santa Fe until the 1980’s when he moved his vet clinic to Chama to establish his practice there and to help his parents manage the ranching business. He served the community as a veterinarian for many years and then retired and devoted his time to developing Mundy Ranch for hunting and real estate sales.\r\n \r\nHe traveled extensively pursuing his lifelong interest in the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and adventurer and shared those passions with his many friends around the world.\r\n \r\nHe is survived by his brother, Emitt Mundy; sons, Mark and Robert Mundy; grandchildren, Tyler and Annalee Mundy; nephews Print and Cache Mundy; cousins, Joe and Bill Morrow, Barbara Berger, Randy Berger and all their respective families.\r\n \r\nThere will be a celebration of life at Chavez Creek Cabin on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 1:00 pm where he will be placed alongside his parents. The family of James Walter Mundy has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.\r\n
