James Elwood Cottrell, Age 87, a resident of Española passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2010. James was born on November 9, 1923 to Troy & Lenora (Hodge) Cottrell in the state of Arkansas town of Thornton. James served in the United States Navy and then he served in the United States Coast Guard and retired from there. James liked to go fishing. He was preceded in death by son, John Cottrell; brother, Bill Cottrell; father, Troy Cottrell; mother, Lenora Hodge Cottrell. James is survived by his wife, Francis Cottrell, they were married for 53 years; sisters-in-laws & brothers –in-laws, Adela and Dwight Pepid, Juan Montoya and wife Anya, Horrcio Montoya and wife Lala Laura Maes. Public visitation will be held on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at LA Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada in Santa Cuz with burial to follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery.
