James E. Valdez, 41, a resident of Alcalde passed away on Monday, January 31, 2011. He was a life long member of the Catholic Church, graduated from Española Valley High in 1987. James earned a degree in Auto Mechanics from the Phoenix Institute of Technology in Arizona in 1988. He loved spending time with his family, many many friends, working on cars, watching his Vikings, the Spurs and the Duke Blue Devils games. He loved listening to music, watching TV, hunting, camping and fishing. James was preceded in death by his brother, Anthony Valdez; maternal grandparents, Damian and Frances Pacheco; paternal grandparents, Cornelio and Cruzita Valdez. He is survived by his daughter, Devine Valdez of Alcalde; parents, Clyde and Lucille Valdez of Alcalde; sisters: Alma Valdez and husband Paul Garcia of Alcalde, Julie Valdez and fiancé Alonso Aragon of Alcalde; nephew who was like a brother, Damian Valdez of Alcalde; many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Public visitation will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 4, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Alcalde with burial to follow at La Villita Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Kevin Valdez, Rodney Valdez, Leonard Atencio, Aaron Salinas, Adrian Martinez and Donald Diaz; honorary pallbearers: Damian Valdez, Michael Paul Jaramillo, Saul Medina, Darren Trujillo, Brad and Greg Gonzales, Ralph Romero, Jeffery Pacheco, Stephen and Christopher Martinez.
