James “JW” Smith, 88, a resident of White Rock, left this world to soar with the angels on Monday, May 18th, 2015. As he states himself, "I knew when my youth was spent when my get-up-and-go has got up and went." He maintained a happy point of view however with "in spite of it all, I am able to grin and think of all the places my getup has been." JW always gave to others, sometimes even when he had nothing to give, and other times when, all he could offer was a joke and a smile. He maintained a resolve to always accept the differences of others which made him incredibly unique amongst his generation, both traits which he proudly inherited from his mother. JW is preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years - JoAnn, and survived by his two daughters Jana Chapman and Jamie Chancey as well as their husbands John and Jerry and his two grandchildren Joshua and Jessica. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. The family of James “JW” Smith has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
