Our Beloved Jacobo (Jake) Polinar Lucero, age 80, passed away peacefully at home on Monday May 22nd, 2023. Jake was born on January 26th, 1943, in Santa Fe, NM, to Pedro and Rose Lucero.
Jake was a humble man of strong faith who loved his whole family unconditionally. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. We will miss his humor and his amazing cooking, but we know we will one day reunite with him where he will greet us with open arms and a big smile. We will miss you, but we know you are no longer suffering and you will always be in our hearts. We LOVE YOU PAPA!
Jake was a graduate of Santa Cruz High School. After High School, Jake served in the military for four years as a Navy Corpsman. Jake furthered his career as a Subject Matter Expert in Radiography for 30 years for the Los Alamos National Laboratory where he retired from. Jake loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his whole family. Jake especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren playing sports. He was their biggest fan!
Jake is preceded in death by his parents Pedro and Rose Lucero, grandson Bryan Lucero, sister Beatrice Romero, father-in-law Arsenio Vigil, mother-in-law Elena Vigil, brother-in-law Rudy Romero, brother-in-law Benjie Martinez, sister-in-law Priscilla Sanchez, sister-in-law Virginia Mares, brother-in-law Juan Vigil, special niece Yolanda (Lana) Archuleta, niece Roseann Martinez and nephews Frankie J. Sanchez and Steven F. Sanchez.
Jake is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Edalia (Dolli) Lucero. His sons Donn Lucero (special daughter-in-law Sharon) and Ronnie Lucero (Arlene), granddaughter Savannah Lucero, grandsons Sean Lucero and Nathan Lucero (Shanea), great grandchildren Mateo and Lexi Lucero, sisters Erlinda Quintana (Manuel), Suzie Roybal (Frank), Theodora (Pinky) Valdez (Tim), and MaryRose Martinez, sister-in-law Donelia (Donna) Romero and brother-in-law Ruben Vigil (Linda).
Services will be held on June 5, 2023, at Holy Cross Catholic Church: Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada, Santa Cruz, NM. Rosary will be at 10:00 am, Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am, and Burial to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 pm.
Pallbearers: All of Jakes Nieces and Nephews.
Honorary Pallbearers: Jeanette (NeeNee) Mares-Jones, Peggy Sue Martinez, Phillip Mares, Manuel Quintana, Lydia Romero, Tina Robinson, Vincent Valdez, Randy Roybal, Michael Quintana, and Andrew Pacheco.
The family would like to express gratitude and extend a special thank you to Reyna Griego and Amanda Pratt from Giving for providing compassion and care for our beloved Jake. Also, a special thank you to all for your prayers, food, visits, cards, and phone calls.
