Ivan Archuleta (our hero)

Ivan Archuleta (or Kid as he was affectionately called), age 79, a lifelong resident of Embudo was called by our Lord at 7:05 am on April 16, of Holy Week . Ivan was born in Embudo on October 29, 1939. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luis and Josefina Archuleta, whom he lovingly cared for until their passing. He is survived by his close sisters, whom he dearly loved, Beulah Archuleta, Norina Ashmore and Bernice Romero, his brothers, Dr. Walter Archuleta, wife Carmel and his youngest sibling Wilbert Archuleta, wife Linda. We also wish to acknowledge and are very grateful to the following: nephew, Adrián Archuleta, who served as his confidant and Power of Attorney, an enormous task, other nephews, Alvan (who was wonderful to Ivan), Wayne and Anthony who were always there for Ivan. We are also grateful to my wonderful nieces and their husbands, Debbie (husband Paul), Liz (husband Victor), and Janice (Adrian who painted a beautiful painting of El Embudito Alegre for Ivan). They loved him dearly and he loved them dearly in return. Janelle, Jill and Juanita also treated Ivan with so much dignity and love. They shared many wonderful moments with Ivan.

Ivan is also survived by his other wonderful nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends. Among them his closest friend, Antonio, with whom he shared a cup of coffee occasionally at Zuly’s. He thought very highly of Antonio.

Ivan was kind, peaceful, loved everyone and was a very special person. He loved everyone and everyone loved him, God, his family, his friends and his community (El Embudito Alegre). His friends and his community were an integral part of who he was.

His personal philosophy was to treat yourself well, get along with everyone and be happy. He was extremely wise and full of wisdom. Ivan leaves behind a very positive legacy to be emulated. He lived a full and fruitful life.

Serving as pallbearers will be Alvan Romero, Anthony Romero, Wayne Ashmore, Antonio Sánchez, Ryan Romero and Adrián Archuleta. A public visitation will take place on Friday, April 26 at 11:00 am with a memorial service to follow at 11:30 am at the DeVargas Chapel in Española. After the service, he will be laid to rest at the Father Kupper Cemetery, in Embudo, where he was born, raised and lived his life. A Celebration of his Life will take place at the Velarde Parish Hall after the internment.
