Isaac Garcia, 84, a lifelong resident of New Mexico and disabled veteran, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 21, 2014 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Isaac was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Anita and his brother, Orlando all of Tierra Amarilla. Mr. Garcia is survived by his wife, Shirley Godfrey of Santa Fe; his sons, Frank Aon (Joanie), Ron Garcia, Lucian Dark of Santa Fe and Eric Garcia (Maria) of West Richland, WA; his stepsons, Steve Godfrey (Regina) of Santa Fe and Jim Godfrey (Sheila) of West Richland, WA; siblings, Grace Valdez of Farmington, Tito Garcia (Angie) of Tierra Amarilla, Virginia Hernandez (Mario) of Albuquerque and Lucy Smith (Jerry) of Philadelphia, PA; grandchildren, Orion and Josh Aon, Natasha, Ron, Randy and Desiree Garcia, Mario, Noah and Nicolas Garcia, Mia Garcia and Natalia Negrete, Robert and Chris Godfrey, Matthew and Bernadette Duran, Josh, Jordan and Jacob Godfrey, in addition to many other friends and relatives. Isaac graduated from McCurdy High School in Española, after which he spent 4 years in the Navy/Marine Corp as a Medic during the Korean War. He received a BA degree in Biology/Chemistry from NM Highlands University, Masters Degrees in Child Psychology and School Administration from NM State University and the University of New Mexico.\r\nIsaac’s career as an educator consisted of Counselor, Business Manager and Superintendent of Schools for Española and Superintendent of Schools for Ojo Caliente, as well as Principal at Abiquiu and Assistant Principal at Española Valley High School. He was also the Director of Capital Outlay for the State of New Mexico. He loved his work because it was so challenging. Isaac loved outdoor sports, hunting, fishing, boating, and water skiing. He also loved to dance and spend time with his family who he loved very much. He will be missed very much by those who knew and loved him. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. The family of Isaac Garcia has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
