Irene G. Age - 85 - Española Valdez

Irene G. Valdez, 85, a resident of Española passed away on Monday, October 31, 2011 in Albuquerque. Irene was born on December 25, 1925 to Antonio and Emma Griego in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. She moved to Española as a young girl and attended Española Schools, graduating from Española High School. In 1947 Irene married Gilbert F. Valdez and they lived in Albuquerque a short time before moving to Española where together they opened and operated the Plaza Café. Irene enjoyed cooking, reading and traveling New Mexico and surrounding states. She was preceded in death by her parents, her 6 sisters: Florence Griego, Bernie Griego, Lillian Maestas, Ella Padilla, Mary Lucero, Genevieve Watling; brother, Ruben Griego. Irene is survived by her children: Linda E. Anglin (Bill), Greg G. Valdez (Barbara Bencomo), Barbara A. Sanchez (James), Yvonne R. Valdez (Andy Chavez); very special family friend, Angela Marie Gonzales; 5 grandchildren: Gina Chavez (Ross), Monica Trujillo, Jason Anglin (Yolanda), Erik Anglin, Lance Penny (Kelly). Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with interment to take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:15 a.m. The family of Irene G.
