Ignacia Age - 95 (Bustos) Martinez

Ignacia (Bustos) Martinez, 95, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2013.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her husband Federico H. Martinez; parents Amavilis and Maria de la Luz Bustos; siblings Tomas Bustos, Danny Bustos, Eloisa Medina and Teresina Tafoya; niece Mary Lou Tafoya and nephew Leroy Tafoya.\r\nIgnacia was born on January 12, 1918 in Alcalde and lived in Española for most of her life. She was probably most well known for her cooking skills. She worked for more than 20 years at the Rio Grande Café, then at the Cowboy Family Restaurant and the Chuckwagon Café before retiring in the 1990s.\r\nShe loved cooking and always made sure her visitors were offered something to eat and drink. When she was able, she also enjoyed crocheting and canning fruit. She and Federico would spend time in Alcalde each summer at Tomas’ house, picking fruit for canning.\r\nShe was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family every fall and visiting with her friends and talking to them on the phone.\r\nShe is survived by her children: Wilfred Martinez (Wanda) of California; Ellie Pacheco of Española; Phoebe Suntjens (Dennis) of Colorado; and Mary Lou Deritis Rush of Clovis; her grandchildren: Janet and Eddie Martinez of California; Angel Pacheco-Lujan (Benjamin) of Española; Jennifer Garcia (Alex) of Los Alamos; Valerie Adkins of Clovis and Lorilee Rumsey; her great-grandchildren: Edward, Robert and Vanessa Martinez of California; Sebastian Garcia of Los Alamos; David Fallis and Shanel Adkins, both of Clovis. She is also survived by nephews Felix Bustos (Angie) and Robert Tafoya (Cathy), all of Alcalde, as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.\r\nPublic visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 12, 201 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Alcalde with burial to follow at Alcalde Catholic Cemetery with the following serving the family as pallbearers: Eric Bustos, Robert Tafoya, Sebastian Garcia, Alex Garcia, Derrick Martinez and David Fallis.\r\nHonorary pallbearers are: Janet and Eddie Martinez, Angel Pacheco Lujan, Jennifer Garcia, Valerie Rush and Lorilee Rumsey. The family of Ignacia (Bustos) Martinez have entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
