HOWARD OVERTON RICHERSON, 85, a resident of Los Alamos, born April 13, 1930, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2016. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel (Scott) and Freida Richerson; siblings, Barbara Winters, Geraldine Wade and Nathaniel (Bud) Richerson; children, Rebecca Richerson-Farris and Jeffery Richerson. Howard grew up with an appreciation for the mountains and the landscape of the Southwest. He moved to Los Alamos where he met and married his wife Carmen. They are both graduates of Los Alamos High School. Howard began his career with the Los Alamos Fire Department at the young age of 18. He worked alongside many great individuals during his 32 years with the Fire Department. He considered the LAFD his second family. During and after his retirement from the Fire Department, he worked for the Los Alamos National Laboratory for over 30 years in various roles of fire safety. Unable to sit still for long, Howard worked for his own company, Fire Safety Services, as a consultant of fire safety systems up to the time of his passing. When he did manage to take time off from working, Howard enjoyed spending time with his family, camping in the beautiful forests of New Mexico and Colorado, watching the Denver Broncos and Atlanta Braves games and sharing a beer with his beloved toy poodle, Trinka. Howard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carmen; children, Nancy Dean (Curtis) of Santa Cruz, Randy Richerson (Terri) of Los Alamos; grandchildren, Cynthia Gray of Los Alamos, Sabrina Candelaria, Michael Miera, Christopher Richerson (LeAnna), Valerie Richerson, Vincent Richerson and Jennifer Richerson all of Albuquerque; nieces and nephews, Sharon Winters, Barry Winters, Greg Wade, Debbie Pena and Kelly Richerson; ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 1st, 2016 at 11:00a.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory. Graveside Services will follow at the Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos. The family of Howard Overton Richerson has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
