\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n Hernando “The Gov” Gallegos Sr, 74, of Abiquiu, passed away March 26, 2010, at his home after a long illness. Born in Barranco, Abiquiu, the Gov., spent 26 years serving our country in the United States Air Force and retired a Master Sergeant. He traveled the world acting as an instructor to countless military personnel. He also retired from GTE – Sylvania, in Boston, where he taught Electronics and molded many young minds. He was educated in Abiquiu public schools and was a graduate of the United States Air Force Technical College. Survivors include; his daughter, Kathya Gavazzi, his son, Hernando Jr, his son-in-law, Steven Gavazzi, and his daughter-in-law, Cassandra; 6 grandsons: Steven Gavazzi, Jr, Joseph Gavazzi, Vincent Gavazzi, Alex Hernando Gallegos, Aaron Hernando Gallegos, Ayden Hernando Gallegos, all who will be acting as pallbearers; 1 great-grandson, Samuel John Cooper, many nieces and nephews including; Alex Avila, Esther Godinez, Richard Madrid, Corine Sisneros, Susie M. Lopez, Eddie Madrid, Chris Madrid, and many more. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 6:00 p.m. at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Abiquiu with a rosary will be recited by Los Hermanos del Penetente at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. also at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Abiquiu with Father James Marshall officiating. Internment will be in Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30 pm. Following internment, the family invites all to the Abiquiu Community Center. The family of Hernando “The Gov” Gallegos has entrusted his funeral arrangements to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley. \r\n
