Herman Madrid Sr. passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on March 27, 2025. He was born on January 5, 1944, in Canjilon, NM, to Pacomio and Magdalena Madrid.
Herman was a proud husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a Vietnam Veteran, who served his country with pride. He was a member of the Local 412 for more than 30 years. He worked as a Pipefitter and Water Utilities Superintendent at Los Alamos National Laboratory for more than 28 years before retiring in 2006. Herman loved woodworking and spending time in his garage being his innovative self. He was a mechanically inclined individual, who could fix anything. He spent precious time with his beloved wife and kids at the Casino. Herman was well known for his gruff demeanor but had the kindest heart. His witty sense of humor will be greatly missed.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents Pacomio and Magdalena Madrid; his sibling Nabor Madrid; his son Ernesto Salazar; and father-in-law and mother-in-law Tirzio and Ignacita Lopez.
Herman is survived by his wife Andrellita Madrid; his sons Herman (Erica) Madrid, John (Amanda) Madrid, and Eric (Lora) Lopez; his daughters Connie (Juan) Madrid, Josie Salazar, and Lourie (Sele Gonzales) Vigil; his grandchildren Rey (Melissa) Madrid, Laura (Ronnie) Lovato, Rhonda (Max) Miranda, Tara (AJ Cauterucci) Salazar, Lorenzo (Maria) Vigil, Stacy (Rick) Nefzer, Andrea (Michael) Madrid-Cano, Lukas Madrid, and Nathan Madrid; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; his siblings Pacomio (Esther) Madrid Jr., Nancy Garcia, Cruz Silva, Juan (Connie) Madrid, and Cipriana (Egripino) Martinez; and numerous nieces & nephews.
Herman’s life was a testament to the power of family, faith, perseverance, and a strong work ethic. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide his loved ones for generations to come.
Services will be held Thursday, April 3, 2025, with the Visitation starting at 5:00 pm and Rosary at 6:00 pm at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM. The Funeral Mass will be held Friday, April 4, 2025, at San Juan Bautista Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh, NM, at 11:00 am, followed by the burial at Cebolla Cemetery.
Serving as Pallbearers are Rey Madrid, Tara Salazar, Lorenzo Vigil, Lukas Madrid, Nathan Madrid, Mizel Garcia, and Tirzio Lopez. Honorary Pallbearers are Laura Lovato, Rhonda Miranda, Stacy Nefzer, and Andrea Madrid-Cano.
