HERMAN COOTS, a resident of Española, passed on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 following a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Ida Coots; in-laws, Richard and Danielita Quintana; brothers, Astor, Herbert, Rudolph, David and Vernon; sisters, Gladys, Doris and Hazel. Herman served his country for 22 years in the US Air Force serving in the Korean and Vietnam Wars and retired as a Master Sergeant. He then worked for the Zia Company at the Los Alamos National Laboratory until his retirement. He loved farming, gardening and restoring his old tractor and spending time with his grandchildren and family. He enjoyed working with his brothers-in-law, Ralph and Eliseo and his special times with his nephew, Rodney Sanchez and niece, Tanya Cordova. Mr. Coots is survived by his wife of 40 beautiful loving years, Celina Coots; son, Richard Coots and wife Helen; grandsons, Tyler and Jason Coots; sisters, Gertrude, Dolois, Mary Katherine and Mabeline; brothers, Donald Ray and Jerry Wayne Coots and other relatives and friends. Cremation is being planned. Rosary will be held on Sunday, June 10, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory.
