HENRY “JAKE” SERNA, SR., 76, a resident of El Guache, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eduardo and Alexina Serna; infant sister, Sofie Jane; brothers-in-law, Joe I. Archuleta, Dick Lawrence and Gene Gonzales; in-laws, Juan and Ascension Gallegos. Jake enjoyed ranching, riding his horses and tending to his cattle. He was a full blown country cowboy. Going to Chacoma was his favorite place to go and that’s where he felt closest to God. He was a prestigious and sociable person. He loved life and gave himself to everyone he knew and didn’t know. He served the US Army and was a proud Veteran. He was also an electrician for Jemez where he retired at 25 years of service. He was dedicated to anything and everything he did. Mr. Serna is survived by his wife of 55 years, Della Serna of El Guache; children, Jacobo de la Serna and wife Barbara of Albuquerque, and Sherrijean Serna; granddaughter, Mari Enrica Serna both of El Guache; siblings, Amy Martinez and husband Raymond, MaryAnn Woods and husband Richard, Vicky Gonzales, Cecilia Archuleta and Edward Serna and wife Yolanda; special companion, “Ebony” and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Monday, April 18, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a wake service at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Espanola, with a burial to follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
