Henry A. Abeyta

Born October 23, 1953, Henry A. Abeyta passed away unexpectedly on September 14, 2023.  A 1971 graduate of Española Valley High School, Henry (aka Ricky or Hank) proudly played trumpet in the marching band and football for the Hornets.  He also earned the highest Boy Scout rank of Eagle Scout, organizing and supervising the placement of hundreds of luminarias along the streets of Española as his final Eagle project one magical Christmas season.

After graduation, Henry attended UNM, double-majoring in chemistry and economics.  He went on to have several successful careers over his lifetime:  firefighter, surveyor, realtor, general contractor, rancher, woodworker, and artisan.  He loved to fish and hunt and was always most at home in the mountains that he loved.

A cherished brother and uncle, beloved nephew, cousin, and fierce friend, Henry is survived by his two sisters--Valdez Abeyta y Valdez, and C. Elizabeth Abeyta-Price, nieces Anacarmen Guambaña, Consuelo Marie Guambaña-Smith, Simoné Felice Guambaña, Lauren Price, Kaitlyn (Price) Davy, nephew Andrew Price, uncle Bellarmino Abeyta, aunts Corrine (Abeyta) Martinez and Diolinda (Abeyta) Brown, several grand-nephews and nieces, and many cousins.

Henry was predeceased by his parents, Henry J. and Herminia V. Abeyta, grandparents Alfredo and Bersabé Abeyta and Eliseo and Josefa de la Luz Valdez, aunts Ofelia (Valdez) Quintana, Olivama Valdez, uncles Alfredito and Elefio Abeyta, Eliseo Valdez, Jr., and numerous cousins.

A Rosary for the repose of Henry’s soul will be offered at 9:00 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am, on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, NM.
