HENDRINA CATA, 67, a resident of Dulce, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Rosita Koteen; daughter, Shannon Rae Cata and numerous siblings. Hendrina’s first love was devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ. She traveled as a missionary to Thailand and Panama. She participated in the 2009 and 2011 Senior Olympics where she traveled to Houston and San Francisco; she qualified for the nationals in the Race Walk, Discus and Javelin. She was quite outgoing and was a great cook. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor. Ms. Cata is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Cata and companion Dominic of Albuquerque; son, Brian Cata of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Darrell Williams of Española, Kara Lente and companion Forrest of Pojoaque, Alvin Martinez, Jr. of Dulce and Danielle Maestas; great-grandchildren, Arianna and Vincent Montoya of Santa Clara and Kazmira Tafoya of Pojoaque; father of her children, Albert Raymond Cata of Ohkay Owingeh; brothers and sisters, Tabor Koteen of Dulce, Emily Dixon of Albuquerque, Eleanor Koteen of Anchorage, Alaska, Judith Williams of Dulce, Wilma Moy of Guachupague, Ralph Koteen and wife Vivian of Albuquerque and Cecilia Early and husband Allen of Globe, Arizona; beloved kitty Cisco, whom she loved with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a devotional service to follow at 6:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 10:00 a.m at the First Indian Baptist Church in Española. Burial to follow at the Dulce Community Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Adrian “Ziggy” Abeyta, Dominic Fierro, Earl Monarco, Jr., Jason Koteen, Nicholas Julian, and Isaiah Vigil. Honorary pallbearers are Alvin Martinez, Jr., Darrell Williams, and Brian Cata. The family of Hendrina Cata has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
