Helen Maestas 10/2/1933 - 2/14/2025
It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that I share the news of the passing of our beloved Helen Maestas on February 14, 2025. Helen was a beacon of light in our lives and to the community, a source of warmth and kindness whose presence enriched us all. Her vibrant spirit, unwavering generosity, and boundless love touched everyone she encountered.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ignacio Maestas, her parents Jose and Sinforosa Montoya, her sons Lawrence Maestas and Charles Maestas, brother Everardo Montoya, sister Ramona Martinez, brother in-laws Nick Trujillo and Ruben Martinez, and multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is a survived by her living children Henrietta Gaines (Dana) and Clarence Maestas, grandchildren Warren Maestas (Megan), Kelly Tyler, Clarence Maestas, Donovan Maestas (Stephanie), Victoria Maestas, Jacob Maestas, Kyle Gaines (Cassandra), Maurissa Martinez (Fabian), Lorenzo Maestas, Manuel, and great grandchildren Isaiah, Isabelle, Johnny, Jazlynn, Catalina, DJ, LaDainian, Calvin, Ignacio (Nacho) Kammilah, Neveah. She is also survived by her nephew Joseph Montoya (Bonnie), her nieces Jane Garcia (Julian), Ruby Valdez (Benjie), Bernice Chavez (Wilfred), Tina Borrego (Micheal), Gloria Naranjo (Michael), Sister in-law Belen Alanis, and numerous godchildren.
A Public Viewing will be on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 5:00 pm, with Rosary to follow at 6:00 pm in the Chapel of Peace at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Espanola, NM, on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at 11:30 am, with burial to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
Pallbearers: Warren Maestas, Kelly Tyler, Clarence Maestas, Donovan Maestas, Jacob Maestas, Kyle Gaines
Honorary pallbearers: Ross Quintana, Imelda Trejo, Denise Ortiz, Sandra Serrano, Lorraine Vigil, Francine Jaramillo, Jennifer Garcia, and Melva.
