Grace Anna Age - 74 Española Short

Grace Anna Short, 74, a resident of Española passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2011. She passed away at home in the loving presence of her husband, Morris; sister Mella; son, Terry; granddaughter, Jamie; nephew Larry and wife Debbie; niece, Jeanette and her daughter Jacqueline. Grace was born in Chama, New Mexico on May 12, 1936 to the late Candido and Sophie Moya. On August 6, 1957, in Chama she married Morris A. Short (USAF) of Midwest City, Oklahoma. She then moved to Tachikowa AB, Japan to Colorado, Oklahoma then to Okinawa, Japan, to three homes in California to Shelton, Washington and finally to Española, New Mexico. She was a devout parishioner at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, a voracious reader and an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was preceded in death by her son, Ricky Dean “Jake” Short at age 29; seven brothers and two sisters. Grace is survived by her husband of 54 years, Morris “Jake” Short of Española, NM; older sister, Mella Salazar of Española; younger sister, Connie Montoya of Albuquerque; niece that was raised as a sister, Mary and husband Fred Jaramillo of Pagosa Spring, Colorado; son, Terry Short and wife Annette of Burtonsville, Maryland; grandchildren: Jamie Lyn Schilling (27) of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Zachary Strider Short (23) and Logan Strider Short (21), both of Maryland; many nephews, nieces and many, many friends. A rosary will be recited on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Española.
