Gilberto “Gilbert” Martinez, 79, a resident of Canjilon, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abran and Adriana Martinez; step-mother, Eduvigen Martinez; Antonio and Asencion (Chon) Maestas whom he was raised with; sister, Vaudinia “Dina” Martin (Louis), brothers, Johnny (Juan Grande) Martinez (Gwen), and Juan Estevan Martinez; son, Gilbert Jr. Gilberto is survived by the mother of his children, Louisa Martinez (Luis) of Espanola; daughter, Karen Martinez of Las Vegas, NV, Adriana “Ardy” Leyba (Eugene) of Canjilon, son, Jeffrey Martinez of Albuquerque, Ross Martinez of Española; granddaughter, Nicole (Michael), grandson, Eugene Jr. (Robin), 3 great-grandchildren, Amber, Miguel, and Kailah; survived by his Living brothers and sisters, Theresa Jaramillo (Ralph) of Blanco, NM, Amabalis Martinez of Tooele, UT, Adan Martinez (Elfa) of Canjilon, Vicente Martinez (Sally) of Salt Lake City, UT, Abran Martinez of Grants, Eloy Martinez (Luby) of Canjilon, Max Martinez (Mary) of Canjilon, Valentina Baldonado of Santa Fe, Clorinda Martinez of Albuquerque, and Miguel Maestas of Canjilon; special relatives, Adan Martinez, and Eutemia; and many nephews, nieces and other relatives. Public visitation will begin on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary be recited at 7:30 p.m. at the San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in Canjilon. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church, with a burial to follow at the Canjilon Cemetery. The family of Gilberto “Gilbert” Martinez has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
