Gilbert L. Naranjo, 76, a resident of Chimayo passed away from a sudden illness on Wednesday, December 7, 2011. He retired from the State of New Mexico Corrections Dept., and then became an active vendor at the Santa Fe Farmers Market for 30 years. Gilbert served in the United States Army National Guard from 1957 to 1967. He loved animals, especially his dogs, Rusty and Mia. Mr. Naranjo was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Manuelita Naranjo; brothers: Daniel and Johnny Naranjo. Gilbert is survived by his wife of 54 years, Isabel Naranjo of Chimayo; sons: Dennis Naranjo and wife Theresa of Chimayo, Gerald Naranjo and wife Sandra of Albuquerque, James and Ben Naranjo of Chimayo; sisters: Marcella Sandoval and husband John of Santa Fe, Levila Archuleta and husband Ray of Santa Cruz and Inez Thomas of Albuquerque; grandchildren: Dennis Naranjo, Jr., DeAnna Sauer and husband Dominic, Michael Naranjo, Danielle Naranjo, Erica Salazar and Angelic Trujillo, James Naranjo, Jr. and Adrianna L. Naranjo; great-grandchildren: Jayden Sauer and Azaziah Salazar; sisters-in-law: Adelia Vigil, Veronica Garrison and husband Richard, Sofia Romero and husband Samuel; numerous other loving relatives & friends. Public visitation will be held on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo with burial to follow at Nuestra Señora de Dolores Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Dennis Naranjo, Jr., James Naranjo, Jr., Michael Naranjo, Rick Sandoval, Danny Naranjo and Jeff Spidel.
