Gilbert Christopher “Gondy” Martinez, age 30 a resident of Española, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 9, 2010. Gilbert was preceded in death by his grandparents, Porfirio and Melesia Gonzales; cousin, Joseph Martinez; best friend, Julian Gonzales; uncle, Bon Gonzales. Mr. Martinez is survived by his daughter, Heavyn Leigh Martinez of Española; father, Dennis Martinez and fiancé Janet of El Guique; mother, Lala Martinez and close friend Larry Fernandez of Arroyo Seco; sisters, Melissa Martinez of Phoenix, AZ and Kimberly Martinez and companion Robert Garcia of La Mesilla; grandparents, Pete and Dolores Martinez of El Guique; nephews, Julian and Freddie Salazar of Hernandez and Isaiah and Jeremy Garcia of La Mesilla; niece, Monique Salazar of Tierra Azul; God-mother, JoAnn Gonzales and fiancé Kevin Valdez of Phoenix, AZ; nino, Benicio Gonzales of Gallina and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a devotional service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at New Hope Christian Fellowship in El Llano. Burial to follow at the El Guique Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Larry Fernandez, Nicolas Gonzales, Robert Montoya, Robert Garcia, Pablo Dominguez, Alex Martinez, Kevin Valdez, Lalo Fernandez, Julian and Freddie Salazar.
