Gilbert Salazar was born in Espanola on October 7, 1937. Gilbert was a lifelong resident of Chamita which was always where his heart was.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his father Alfredo Salazar, his mother Antonia, and many siblings.
Gilbert is survived by his wife Nora, son Ron (Lindy), daughter Kathy, and son Rick (Yolanda). His grandchildren Justin, Julie (Matt), David (Taylor), and Katricia (Isaac). And beloved great grandchildren Brooklynn Medina, Riley and Fatima Garcia, and Riley and Stella Salazar.
He worked for 40 years at LANL. Gilbert was well known for his many years refereeing high-school basketball. Gilbert also enjoyed many years of playing baseball throughout northern New Mexico with his sons. He also played basketball for many years. He was an avid hunter which he also enjoyed with his sons and friends. He instilled the love of sports into his children. Gilbert remained active well into his 60’s. Gilbert is a veteran of the US Army and served in the National Guard for 13 years. Gilbert is already missed and so loved. Rest in peace to our beloved patriarch, dad, grandpa, great grandpa and brother.
Services are Friday, September 1, 2023, at Saint John the Baptist Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Rosary is at 10:00 am, with the Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 am. Burial with military honors to follow at Chamita Catholic Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are the following: Justin Fix, David Salazar, Isaac Garcia, Leroy Salazar, Alex Rodriguez, Chuck Shane, Rudy Salazar, and Matt Edmunds
