Gilbert Montoya

Gilbert Montoya, 78, a resident of Truchas and Chimayo. He came into this world June 13, 1936 and left us on March 25, 2015. He was preceded in death by his father, Casimiro, his mother, Eduvijen; his siblings, Abel Montoya, Florinda Romero, Adonisa Martinez, Eustacio Montoya, and Senovio Montoya; grandsons, Quentin Ramos and Brock Montoya. He lives on through his spouse Lugarda Montoya and surviving siblings Jose Eluid Montoya (Bernadine) and Anita Lancaster. He has six children, Sharon Nanez (Michael), Rosemary Holloway, Earl Montoya (Cynthia), Brenda Garcia, Gilda Ramos (David) and Gilbert A. Montoya; his 16 grandchildren, Jude Montoya (Erica), Aaron Nanez, Crystal Nanez, Chad Montoya (Merideth), Adrianna Mason (Robert), Anthony Montoya (Danielle), Adam Montoya, Abriam Montoya, Austin Montoya, Avery Garcia, Charise Chavez (Robert), Caprise Mazariegos (Estuardo), Gabriela Montoya and Alexandrea Montoya; 21 great-grandchildren, Alyc Montoya, Dominick Montoya, Isabel Montoya, Liam Nanez, Kason Nanez, Taden Nanez, Kayla Nanez, Kaleb Montoya, Emilia Mason, Robert Mason Jr, Julian Montoya, Nathan Montoya, Genesa Garcia, Jossette Garcia, Susette Garcia, Marissa Garcia, Ethan Chavez, Tristen Chavez, Priscilla Chavez, Geneva Chavez, Mareyah Mazariegos, Nathalia Mazariegos, and Sofia Mazariegos. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed not only by his family but by the animals that adopted him. He was a hardworking man who helped as many people as he could. We will always treasure the memories and the stories we shared. We love you Husband, Father, Uncle, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, and Friend. Public visitation will begin on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 30, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo, with a burial to follow at the Los Llanitos Cemetery in Truchas. Serving the family as pall bearers are Randy Montoya, Anthony Montoya, Joseph Martinez, Abriam Montoya, Jacob Romero, Alyc Montoya, and Ethan Chavez. Honorary pallbearers are the remaining grandchildren and great-grandchildren listed above. The family of Gilbert Montoya has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
