GERTRUDE M. SAUER, 90, a resident of Española, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 with her loving family by her side. Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Sauer; parents, Amarante and Ramoncita Quintana; sisters, Josie Martinez, and Eulalia Newton; brothers-in-law, Joe Martinez and Ernest Newton; and special niece, Dolores Velarde. Gertrude loved gardening, she enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a very spiritual and faithful person. She instilled good values, and taught her family kindness, to be humble, and to always just be yourself. Gertrude was survived by her children, Audrey Sauer Lopez, and Jerome Sauer (Chu); grandchildren, Dominic Sauer (DeAnna), Miguel Lopez (Victoria), and Erica Salazar; great-grandchildren, Jaden, Jericho, and Jaslynn Sauer, Abram Lopez and Azaiah Salazar; sister-in-law, Dolores Manley of Maysville, Kentucky, and many other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada, with a Mass of Christian burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 12:45 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Willie and Arturo Vigil, Earl Wright, Patrick Trujillo, Lupe Martinez, and Dale Salazar. Honorary pallbearers are, Jaden, Jericho, and Jaslynn Sauer, Abram Lopez, and Azaiah Salazar. The family of Gertrude M. Sauer has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
