Gertrude M. Marker (Gerty), 80, a resident of Tierra Amarilla, passed away in Española surrounded by her loving family on Monday, February 1, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Marker; parents, Santiago and Juanita Garcia; brothers, Antonio "Tony" and Filiberto "Hono" Garcia; sisters, Leotina Quintana and Cristella Binion; and special God-son, Bobby Binion. Gertrude is survived by her sisters, Lupe Martinez and Gloria Chacon (Joe); a niece that she help raise, Juanita Martinez Jebbanema; daughters, Johanna Terrazas (Randy), Elizabeth Melton (Vince), Frances Madrid (Joe), Laura Seeds (Robert) and her grandson, John Gallegos (Crystal); 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 8 God-children and many other relatives and friends that care and loved her dearly.
Gerty was a devoted Mother, Grandmother and friend who was loved dearly. She enjoyed baking, crocheting, making chokecherry jelly, and picking pinion. She loved watching sports and was an avid Escalante Lobos and Dallas Cowboy fan. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor, her exceptional cooking, and her loving and giving nature. She will be missed dearly.
Public visitation will begin on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A second rosary will be recited on Monday, February 8, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the Santo Nino Catholic Church in Tierra Amarilla. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. also at the Santo Nino Catholic Church. Burial to follow at the Los Ojos Cemetery with the following pallbearers, Billy Terrazas, John Gallegos, Joseph Madrid, Angelica Seeds, Janice Madrid, Andrea Torrez-Martinez, Jaydn Martinez, Jordan Gallegos, and Aban Jebbanema. Honorary pallbearers are the rest of Gerty's grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and Gilbert Tafoya, Eric Moya, Antionette Montoya, and Bobby Binion.
