Gersedon was born and raised in Cordova, NM. He loved the outdoors and was an avid runner and bicyclist. Gersedon loved his job and retired from Sandia National Lab where he worked in public relations. Gersedon was a professional photographer. He was also an outstanding pool player. He ran a billards league, won numerous pool tournaments and won the Gold medal in the NM Senior Olympics. He was a profoundly religious man. His church and family mean’t everything to him. He was very involved in anti-drug campaigns and workshops for the youth.
Throughout his many years of pain and suffering, his faith in God never waivered. Gersedon passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his five children: Daniel Martinez, Jacqueline (Shirley) Martinez, Jimmy Martinez, Larry
Martinez and Bettina Martinez. His five grandchildren: Jennifer Ball, Jimmy Lee Martinez, Justin Martinez, Dillen Martinez, Sunny Darley and eight great-great grandchildren.
Brothers and sisters, Joe (Solis) Martinez, Marcos Martinez, Fedelina, Vivian and Dolinda.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Demetrio and Eufracia Martinez, brother Adonaiso, sister Celina, son Michael Martinez, and grandson Leo Martinez.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday June 6th beginning 10 am in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home with burial to follow in Cordova.
The family of Geresdon Martinez has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home of the Espanola Valley.
