Gerbacio D. - age 82 - Albuquerque/Chimayo Martinez

Gerbacio D. Martinez, 82, a resident of Albuquerque, formerly of Chimayo, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 11, 2014. Gerbacio was preceded in death by his wife, Sabinita Martinez; sons, Billy and Gerald Martinez; parents, Avelino and Faustina Martinez; brother, Abel Martinez. He was an avid fisherman, he loved to go fishing in the Cundiyo River, and he enjoyed long walks and drives. He took pleasure in his Chile patch his “Jardin”. He worked in Los Alamos for 50 years, he loved being with his great-grandchildren. He loved to watch and pray with the Catholic Channel he could watch it 24/7 if they let him. Gerbacio is survived by his son, Elmer Martinez and wife Teresa of Albuquerque; daughter-in-law, Rosemary Martinez of Chimayo; 7 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. A rosary will be recited on Friday, March 14, 2014 at 8:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo, with a burial to follow at Nuestra Senora de Dolores Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Eric Martinez, Eugene Martinez, Clyde Cordova, Manuel Cordova, Leroy Martinez, and Leroy Martinez Jr., honorary pallbearers names are Fidel Martinez, Jonathan, Kieren, M.J. and Tristan. The family of Gerbacio Martinez has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
