GERARDO MARQUEZ QUIÑONES
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerardo Marquez Quiñones after a brief illness. Gerardo was born on August 9, 1938, in Durango, Durango, Mexico.
Gerardo was predeceased by his parents, Leopoldo and Eloisa Marquez, his siblings, Otilia M. Garcia, Manuela Marquez, Ruben Marquez and Ernesto Marquez; his in-laws Jose Elias Vasquez and Maria Vasquez; sisters-in law Lourdes Garcia, Rosanna Lujan, Jeannie Vasquez and Soledad Marquez; brothers-in-law Robert Garcia, Moises Lujan, Jr. and Luis Miguel Garcia; niece Norma Jean Vasquez and nephews Jose Luis Garcia and Fernando Marquez.
Gerardo is survived by his spouse of 42 years, Elena Marquez; his children Juan Gerardo Marquez (Nena), Rocio Marquez, Gloria Marquez, Cecelia Marquez, Roberto Marquez (Auri) and Diahann Jacquez (Jerome); brother Erasmo Marquez; brother-in-law Joe Vasquez and sister-in-law Susan Marquez. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Gerardo, Cinthia, Anahi, Alejandra, Ana Elizabeth, Maria Cecilia, Ethan Roberto, Liam Serrat, Danielle (Jerry), Lucas, Jeremiah (Carmella) and Victor, along with five great-grandchildren: Alejandro, Alexa, Lia Maylen, Ana Victoria, Jeremiah (JJ) and Amiah (his Amailla). In addition, he is survived by many nieces, nephews and several Godchildren.
Gerardo was a professional musician, having started at the age of nine when his father passed away. He began playing music to help support his mother. He played in various orchestras in Mexico City, was part of the Trio Melodico Group with the late Genoveva Chavez for over 10 years. He was with the group Los Bohemios in Albuquerque for over 20 years and most recently was a part of Mariachi Fiesta with Nidia Martinez.
Gerardo was most known for his musical talents, his uncanny sense of humor and debonair sense of style. He most loved spending time with his family – both in Mexico and here. Dad also loved his pets – all of his cats and of course his puppy, Querobin. Aside from the love he had for family and friends, most important was his undying faith in Our Lady of Guadalupe. This faith kept him hopeful, even as he took his last breath. His love and compassion will be greatly missed.
The family of Gerardo Marquez Quiñones would like to give a sincere thanks to Dr. Michelle Carr, all the exceptional staff at Del Corazon Hospice, and to all our friends and family who reached out to help care for Gerardo during his final days on this earthly world.
A Rosary will recited at Holy Family Parish in Chimayo, NM, on Monday, August 5, 2024, at 1:15 pm, with a Funeral Mass following at 2:00 pm.
