Gerald (Gerry) Frank Ramsey, of Los Alamos passed away on October 17, 2011, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, at the Beehive Assisted-Living Home after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.\r\n He was born to Frank and Beatrice Joyce Woodford Ramsey on July 12, 1938 in Missoula, Montana. He grew up in Ames, Iowa and graduated from Ames High in 1956. Gerry received a BS in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Kansas in 1965. He later attended Idaho State University and graduated with his MBA in 1981. He married his wife, Marilyn, in 1985 and they were sealed in the Denver Temple in 1988.\r\n Gerry joined the Navy in 1957. He attended Officer Candidate School and was commissioned in 1965. From 1965 until 1978 he spent most of the time at sea serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans on nuclear submarines. He retired from the Navy in 1978.\r\nAfter retiring from the Navy, Gerry was employed by Idaho State University, State of Idaho Dept. of Water Resources, and Detroit Edison. In 1985, Gerry moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico to work for the Los Alamos National Laboratory. At LANL he was employed first as a nuclear reactor supervisor and later as a team leader at the Emergency Operation Center. He worked for LANL until his retirement in 2004.\r\n Gerry was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities within the church. His most cherished time was serving the young men and being a member of the Santa Fe Stake High Council.\r\n Gerry is survived by his wife of 25 years, Marilyn and six children: Rochelle Ramsey, Blackfoot, ID; Scott Ramsey, Scottsdale, AZ; Liseja (Rich) Gurr, Encinitas, CA; Kelle (Landon) Harrison, Mesa, AZ; Paige Ramsey, Salt Lake City, UT; and Joshua Ramsey, Los Alamos, NM. He is also survived by his brother, Richard (Ann) Ramsey, Marion, IA; sister, Janet (Chris) Durlam, Jefferson, IA; and brother, Homer, San Diego, CA; as well as his thirteen grandchildren. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.\r\n Memorial donations may be made to the AmberCare Hospice Foundation or the Humanitarian fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.\r\n A viewing will be held at 9 a.m. and funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 21 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1967 18th St, Los Alamos, NM.
