George “Jorge” Romero, 85, a resident of Llano Quemado (Taos), NM passed away suddenly on Friday, November 17. 2017. George was a loving husband to his wife of 67 years, Maria Teresa. For most of his younger years George was a borreguero. He taught all five of his sons how to stay out at the campo with the sheep, how to watch over them, and how to work them. Eventually most of the sheep were sold off and cattle became the way of life for him and his family. Over the years many grandkids, great-grandkids, and great-great-grandkids were born and grandpa George taught them his way of life. George loved to be out checking on the cattle, moving them from winter home, to spring home, to summer home. George also loved to be in the mountains whether it was “helping” with the cows, roaming around, or just enjoying a good meal. George was also great company and was always ready to go for a ride, especially long ones. George is preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Clorinda Romero, sons; Espisio, Alejandro E., and Jose Romero, daughter; Vangie Romero and grandson Jose Mondragon. George is survived by his wife Maria Teresa Romero, six children; sons Robert Romero and wife Priscilla, JoeRay Romero, Daniel Romero and wife Roberta, David Romero and wife Mary, George Romero and wife Beverly, daughter; Georgina (Clorinda) Mondragon, brothers; Levi Romero and wife Juana, Juan Romero and Susie, Manuela Romero, and sister; Ruby Saavedra and husband Cirilio, 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren plus one on the way.
