GEORGE MARTINEZ, 90, a resident of Velarde, went home to the Lord Sunday, May 31, 2015 following a lengthy illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abelino and Amalia Martinez; brothers, Emilio, Victor and Ricardo Martinez; mother of his daughters, Olivia Martin; great-grandson, Joey Mondragon; niece, Maria Martinez; son-in-law, Howard Martinez and aunt, Ermelinda Martinez. George was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He retired from the State Land office after 20 years. Prior to working for the state he drove the bus for the St. Anthony’s Catholic school in Dixon. After his retirement he helped to care for his parents until their passing. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Mr. Martinez is survived by his daughters, Yvonne Sena and husband Tom and their children Joseph and wife Claudia, Richard and wife Katie, John and wife Beth; Jennifer Alires and her children, Eddie Joe, Kathlyn and Jason Roybal; Myra Elias and husband Michael and their children, Christopher, Eric and fiancée Jessica; Diana Martinez and fiancé Jose Montoya and their children, Georgette Montoya and husband Herman Mondragon, Maria Montoya and husband Fred Baca and Jose Montoya; Doreen Martinez and husband Lawrence and their children; Amanda, Elizabeth, Lorenzo and Stephanie; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandsons; sister, Susie Lucero; brothers, Ruben and Joe and wife Priscilla; sisters-in-law, Corina Martinez and Concepcion Hernandez and other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde. Burial to follow at the Velarde Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Eddie Joe and Jason Roybal, Joseph, Richard and John Sena, Christopher and Eric Elias, Jose Montoya and Lorenzo Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be all his grandchildren and sons-in-law. The family would like to thank Dr. Mirchandi, the staff of Gentiva Hospice, caregiver, Anjanette Martinez; family and friends for their prayers, support and help and DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. The family of George Martinez has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
